Building a wooden pencil holder (or pen holder) is an original idea to put in your child’s bedroom. Originality and functionality in the same object.
What you need:
- Log of wood
- Alternative saw
- Drill
- Sand paper
How to proceed
After getting a resistant log of the diameter that is most preferred (it is possible to cut the log of the desired shape according to the needs, such as squared, rectangle, etc.) and measure the height of a not yet tempered pencil. Divide the result in half and using the alternative hacksaw to cut the log.
With some sandpaper, smooth the base of the log. As for the upper base, drill a number of times according to how many pencils you will want to insert. To make these holes use a drill with a diameter bit a bit larger than the pencil. (Follow this guide for a correct use of the drill)
These holes must stop at one centimeter from the bottom base. Also cover the upper part with sandpaper.
If you prefer a pencil holder made of natural wood, paint the surface using transparent varnish. On the other hand, if you love color, paint the color you prefer, making the object personalize so as to bring out your taste in the subject.
Tip: always pass a layer of transparent varnish for a longer lasting construction over time.
